Assessment

Assessment
I am particularly focused on achieving an assessment for learning process.
In lesson time I give both verbal and written feedback to pupils to optimise their learning during
the short time I am with them every 2 weeks. This allows me to adjust planning/strategies for the
next time I am in class or adjust the lesson outcome at the time.
I find this is most effective when understanding whether the objective of a level has been met
when teaching for a short period of time. This process then enables me to complete an assessment
table as the term goes on.
For each class I produce an assessment table. One table per class is created based on the
Maths strand objectives and completed using the school’s assessment framework of
working below, at or above.
For Science/Topic, relevant objectives are chosen and assessed in the same manner.
These objectives are then shared with each class teacher.
Evidence of how I have assessed the objectives can be found in books or chrome books
(if a word document/slides were produced). Evidence is also taken from class discussions/targeted
questioning and any contribution I have witnessed pupils make, as well as in group activities.

At the end of a unit there may be a post unit assessment (maths) or mini project to put together
the knowledge they have acquired over the term which I can assess.

Resourcing and Planning

Resourcing
To complement lesson plans, I produce resources. These include:
Slides
picture prompts
writing templates
cutting and sticking activities
Group activities
Modelled examples
Math questions/activities
Practical activities.
Resources are created/researched based on level and differentiation in each class.
Most lesson plans will include a mastery resource activity, particularly within Maths or pieces of writing.

Resources can be found primarily on google drive by term and class and are shared
with Pauline Taylor.

Planning
During this academic year I have consistently completed weekly plans and long term plans.
The weekly plans are adjusted each week according to which class I am covering release for.
Long term plans have primarily focused on the two main areas I cover during lesson time.
This consists of a long term plan for topic/science and maths.
Each plan varies depending on year group and level such as Room 1 and 3, Room 4, Room 7
and Room 6.
Reading plans are produced by class teachers and I follow these in rooms 1,4 and 7.
I consult each class teacher regarding long term plans such as maths strands/topic areas
to ensure each teacher is happy with the unit covered and which most benefits the pupils
in a particular class.

Inquiry

As a newly registered teacher in New Zealand, the inquiry area of professional development is a new concept. I have received support from colleagues at school to develop my knowledge and thinking surrounding this area. As noted in my PD post, I have had input from professional agencies such as Core Education both with our CoL on a group meeting day and one to one.

Evidence of my inquiry process and journey can be seen on my planning site and google drive and in the notes below that I have made during meetings.

PD

I have had the opportunity to attend a CoL day in Cromwell on June 13th 2019.
This day was centred around our inquiry for this year, student agency.
We had information and helpful input from Core Education. It developed my knowledge and understanding
of what student agency is considered to be and the most beneficial ways to use it in classroom.
It assisted the development of my inquiry question and future steps to take.
It was also a good opportunity to interact with other teachers within the CoL.
Exploring their inquiries and giving feedback to each other or provoking further thought.

I have been able to participate in google hangouts within our CoL to update each other on inquiry
progress or any other aspect within the classroom or surrounding our pupils that could be discussed.

Anne from Core Education visited Lawrence Area School and a half hour one to one session was given
on 2nd July 2019. Anne gave me some really great ideas to use practically during my inquiry process
and it was helpful to discuss any thought processes out loud to someone else and receive personal
feedback.
